At Gurīn Energy, Assaad translates Board strategy into the business plan; directs and oversees execution of the plan through the selection, motivation and performance management of a high performing team; leads on origination, commercial negotiation and investment decision making for development opportunities; maintains relationships with Board, partners and commercial advisors.
Assaad has over 30 years of business experience and has been working in Asia for nearly 20 years, including leadership roles in renewables and climate mitigation for over 15 years.
He is a trustee of ClientEarth, an Advisory Board member of Eco-Business; a Board member of EB Impact, the Singaporean non-profit organisation focused on delivering training and programmes to Asia Pacific’s underserved communities to generate positive sustainable development; host of The Angry Clean Energy Guy podcast; and a member of the International Council of the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine;
Assaad is a graduate of Syracuse University (summa cum laude) and holds an MBA from Columbia University in New York and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Honoris Causa in Climate Change, Sustainable Development and International Cooperation from Teri University in India.
Based in Singapore, Emma is responsible for overall leadership and direction of ESG to create long term value for our employees, shareholders and the communities in which we operate. Emma maintains and embeds leading ESG practices to manage risk and leverage opportunities throughout development, construction and operation of all projects; develops, mentors and supports the country leads and internal teams; and manages internal and external reporting.
Emma brings over 20 years of experience in sustainability from multiple industry sectors and holds a BSc from the University of Sydney and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
Based in Jakarta, Enda is responsible for the creation and delivery of renewable energy projects in the country. Prior to joining Gurin, Enda was a country manager for a renewable energy company opening the country’s first exposure to large scale green hydrogen and green ammonia production and domestic use.
From 2001 until 2021, Enda worked in the public sector in several government agencies including the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Indonesia from 2015 until 2019. During this time, Enda authored and led the work in reforming government policies and business process adjustments. Among them include sustainable financing, improvements in education spending, energy transition and community driven development.
Enda also served in the World Bank from 2010 until 2015 focusing on Public Sector and Public Financial Management (PFM) reforms. Enda has authored several books on PFM reforms, and the country’s attempt to reduce marine debris. Enda holds a master’s degree in Economics, Finance and Management from the University of Bristol, UK.
At Gurīn Energy, Franck leads on all subjects related to energy storage and flexibility; has overall responsibility for projects from development, construction to operations; brings business development and technical expertise; maintains relationships with equipment suppliers, local stakeholders and EPC.
Franck has over 25 years of business experience within the energy sector including 10 years in the energy storage and flexibility area in Europe, Asia and Middle East.
He holds a Master of Economics and a Post Master of Industrial Strategy from Paris Pantheon Sorbonne University in France.
Based in Singapore, Gmeleen assists in managing new projects, strategic partnerships and other commercial arrangements, and works closely with in-country teams and technical, finance and legal colleagues.
Gmeleen brings over 16 years of experience running project finance, M&A and capital market deals in the energy, infrastructure and other sectors across APAC. Prior to joining Gurīn Energy, she advised on M&A and debt and equity financings in a global investment bank; as well as practicing for eight years at a blue-chip law firm.
She holds a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines, a BS in Business Economics from the University of the Philippines and is admitted as a lawyer in New York, England & Wales and Philippines.
Based in Singapore, Hannah is responsible for communications at Gurin Energy, where she develops and delivers communications strategies for corporate communications, brand building and reputation management.
She brings over 13 years of experience in media and corporate communications, most recently as part of consumer goods giant Unilever’s global communications function with a focus on palm oil, sustainable sourcing and nature. Previously, she was a journalist and covered current affairs, sustainability and business news, as well as leading the development of branded content and programming for regional thought leadership events.
Hannah graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in Sociology.
Based in Singapore, Jeremy is Gurīn’s chief technical expert and leads the technical design and the technology standards in all of Gurīn’s investment decision making and project development process, in co-ordination with business development and in-country teams: Jeremy manages the regional technology team that reviews project design, technical specification and key technical assumptions, as well as inputs into the investment model. Jeremy also reviews the performance of operating assets as well as manages and maintains relationships with the technical advisors, EPCs and key technology suppliers.
Jeremy has over 20 years of business experience – across projects of 12GWp of solar and 1.5GWh of energy storage combined – in the areas of project execution, PV electrical solutions design and plant performance monitoring.
He holds a B.Eng Hons in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Based in Singapore, Kajal is responsible for implementing new projects and exit strategies; the structuring, negotiating and documentation of all the project investments and development opportunities and other commercial arrangements. Working closely with the in-country teams, the technical teams and her finance colleagues, Kajal manages the commercial, operational and legal aspects of both development and operating projects across Asia, as well leading the reporting function.
Kajal holds a Socio-Legal Sciences degree and a Law degree from the Symbiosis International University, India, and brings over 16 years of experience in transactions and investments from multiple industry sectors.
Based in Singapore, Mayen is responsible for the provision of legal, risk and compliance coverage, ensuring the business receives legal advice and support at all stages in the development, financing, construction and operation of sustainable utility-scale solar, wind and energy storage projects. She is also involved in developing business strategy and providing strategic legal advice to management.
Mayen brings significant experience in energy infrastructure projects in the maritime and power generation sectors and has worked on projects across the APAC and EMEA regions. She is admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales and holds a BA (Hons) Law from the University of Hertfordshire, England.
At Gurīn Energy, Michael translates the business plan into annual budgets and multi-year year forecasts; maintains standards of financial management, analysis and reporting; develops and manages financial and support staff; leads on all financial and modelling aspects of investment decision making and project development and maintains relationships with banks, financial advisors and investor teams.
Michael holds an MA from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and is an ICAEW qualified Chartered Accountant who brings three decades of experience of finance and capital markets and a strong knowledge of the international investment and banking communities.
Based in Bangkok, Nueng manages and leads the overall project pipeline, development, construction and operations in Thailand, ensuring Gurīn Energy is operating in-country according to best practices including management system, cost controls and the implementation of recognized international environmental, social, health and safety standards. Nueng also establishes and maintains strong relationships with the advisors, offtakers, relevant government agencies, local communities and other key counterparties; manages permitting and licensing processes for greenfield and brownfield projects; and the highest ESG standards are implemented throughout project life cycles.
Nueng has over 12 years of experience in the Thai Renewable Energy sector.
She holds a B.E. from King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi in Thailand.
Based in Manila, Reden develops and executes Gurīn’s strategies, development plans, and operational programs in the Philippines. With over 20 years of experience in renewable energy, Reden has taken leadership roles in developing various energy applications across the country, from large-scale and commercial-sized renewable energy resources such as biomass, waste-to-energy, and solar, to conventional applications such as solar+diesel hybrids and diesel generation for distributed electricity production, to the application of solar technologies for the production of freshwater for remote communities.
Reden has extensive experience in project origination, development, construction, and operation and is deeply immersed in the renewable energy sector, guided by the principle of “rolling up his sleeves and getting to work”. He received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of the Philippines.
At Gurīn Energy, Bob maintains standards of technical excellence, mentoring and developing country leads and technical directors; leads on all technical and regulatory aspects of investment decision making and project development; has overall responsibility for projects during construction and operations; maintains relationships with technical advisors, regulators and TSOs / DSOs / offtakers and is ESG lead.
Bob has over 40 years of business experience including 25 years in the Asian power sector.
He holds a B.A. from Carroll College, Montana and an M.A. from the University of Texas.
After a 17-year career in the UK energy industry, Robert moved to Asia in 1997 to undertake senior roles in investment banking (Hong Kong) and in private equity (Singapore). In the period from 1997 to 2014, Robert worked on transactions in India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, Australia, and also collaborated with Hong Kong and Japanese corporates.
In April 2014, Robert relocated to the Philippines (where his family resides) to take up employment with the Aboitiz Group where he had a concurrent role overseeing business development, investments, and divestments in both the Aboitiz Equity Ventures and Aboitiz Power companies.
Robert was the chairman of the Investment Committee and project-managed almost all of the Group’s significant capital deployments over the last nine years.
Robert graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry (1980) and an MBA (1994), both from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. He recently added an MLitt in Scottish Heritage (2022) from the University of Aberdeen.
Based in Gwangju, Sam has over 25 years of experience in business development, marketing and PR as a corporate executive and advisor. In 2000, Sam served as expansion manager at Carrefour Korea and then was later promoted to PR director for the French retail giant.
Sam co-founded AWR Lloyd Korea office in 2008 to provide specialized energy advisory services to major IPPs and renewable developers in Korea. Much of his work was dedicated to research, origination, and client management and he delivered significant growth for the firm in the country. Sam has advised on multiple deals including the successful acquisition of a 1,800MW gas-fired power plant asset. His main area of expertise includes fuel market forecasts, power market analysis, and renewable development.
At Gurīn, Sam strives his best to develop clean energy projects across South Korea while meeting the highest ESG standards in the business. Sam holds a BS degree from the University of Oregon.
Based in Singapore, Stanley oversees all financial aspects of the business and drives the Group’s financial strategy, planning and management, including statutory reporting, financial controls, budgeting, treasury & cash management and taxation. He started his career in the Assurance department of PricewaterhouseCoopers before moving out to the commercial sector. Stanley is also a volunteer Board/ Committee member of certain not-for-profit organizations in Singapore.
Stanley holds a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from Nanyang Business School and is a Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA).
